Hosted by Shadyville’s DJ Woogie, the release is packed with underground heavy hitters such as: Joell Ortiz, Immortal Technique, Block McCloud, Sha Stimuli, Termanology, and Slug of Atmosphere. Close associates Godilla, Ali Armz, Reef the Lost Cauze & Adlib also help out on the mic while production duties are handled by Haze Attacks, Astronote and Viktor Ax with additional heat from DC The Midi Alien, Stu Bangas, Misanthropist and even King Magnetic himself.

DJ Kwestion lends his scratching talents on four tracks including the B-side of the 1st official single, “Hip-Hop” ft. Ali Armz and Slug (Produced by Astronote).

Cadillac were taken by surprise that the Rap scene had taken the Luxury SUV to it’s heart. “I’m short, so I need trucks to make me look tall,” says rapper Missy Elliott. “I rap about the Escalade because it’s a hot car and everyone has one, so I knew they could relate.” (I think Jermaine Dupri owns one too then)

Judging from the picture, Andre 3000 of Outcase was totally blown away by the handling of this thing.

This car costs more than a few houses together but doesn’t stop Rappers from making anthems explaining how much they love to flaunt their cash while everyone else is on wither wellfare or scruck by the recession. While even saving your allowance for a year or so can buy you a bottle of expensive Cristal Champagne, a Maybach is clearly out of your league unless you are Michael Jackson’s kids. So next time Ricky calls you up for a remix make sure you got one of these in the Garage!

The hip-hop star owns a fleet of super-fast motors and his own gold-furnished plane, but he reverts to his 1958 CORVETTE if he needs to impress the ladies. He says, “If you don’t have a girlfriend and you want a girlfriend, just put on a white T-shirt, some jeans and get up in this, pop the top and drive slowly. I guarantee you, within 20 miles, you’ll have a date.” Think it might have been Eddie Murphy’s favorite too. Price? Say 200 grand for the car, 15$ for the tee, 100 $ for the Jeans and another 100 $ for your sneakers. Guarantee from Puffy? Priceless!

6. “Hey Look At Me” Rapper’s Car: Lamborghini Gallardo

“I’m in my Lambo – faggot” … 50 Cent knows how to put salt on your broke-ass wounds. This car basically says; I got a mansion, about 10 cars and this one is just a gadget since I can’t even drive it that fast in all these traffic jams in the city but hey aren’t I fabulous? This Italian Monster is a boy-toy so it makes you think  twice when Missy and Lil’ Kim drive around in them as well. When nobody notices you walking on the street anymore, it’s time to hit the dealership!

Shouldn’t all DJ’s have their own special edition cars? Just find a car nobody really likes to drive and try to mix it up a little! Funk Master Flex looks sooo lonely and regretful to have contributed(?) with his name on this piece of …… truck.

8. Average Rapper’s Car: Rolls Royce Phantom

“RAPPERS, man, too many rappers. I should know.” Pharrell Williams can see the irony. Here he is, the hip-hopper who is so hip it hurts and he’s, discussing how his favorite cars, the Rolls-Royce Phantom and Rolls-Royce Phantom Drophead Coupe, have become too popular – with rappers. They are so good he got two, one to be driven in and one for himself to drive. “In the early days, the cars were rarities,” he says. So, what are you waiting for? Go Get one or you’re going to be the strange different guy at the party!

9. Retired Rapper’s Car: Dodge Challenger

I think he’s just window-shopping but rumor has it MC Hammer drives a Dodge Challenger. I guess that sums it all up: when Detroit’s only way to get rid of their cars is to give them out to Hammer -> you hit bottom.

10. Broke Rapper’s Car: A-Train

Still shopping around for that record deal? Parking too expensive and rather spend it on studio time? There is still hope! Looking at the brighter side of things, it’s the only car on the list in which you can throw a serious party

Taking a few steps forward would be to go into minimalist Drum machine breaks and simple enough rhymes, yet then again it seems we caught up with times on this one as well (Remember 50 Cent and “I get Money”?).  A fair share of mainstream musicians are now all Daft Punk inspired and top of most charts are infused with this House/Hip-Hop dance character. We should however remember that Daft Punk created their sound somewhere in the late nineties and it basically took us 10 years to catch up with their recipe. Looking at the grander design of time, come the early nineties with that New Jack Swing kind of sound with Teddy Riley as the undisputed front man. If you think about it, the people that carried Teddy’s legacy forwards were none other than Billboard regulars Chad Hugo and Pharell Williams. No introduction needed but over the years they have sold over millions of records and have had top spots on the Billboard charts. Trivia is, Pharell wrote a verse for Wreckx’N’Effex hit single Rumpshaker way back when. Now in the wake of MJs death I honestly foresee a revival for Teddy’s older sound designs.  Check the video below and see what Chad and Pharell say on keeping things simple, real and fresh in order to adapt to technology and new things.  Honestly, this might be the next big thing to hop on if you are jumping bandwagons: start from scratch instead of jumping into the sea of hype and drowning in it …

So, timing is everything in terms of when and how to adapt to the changes of time (if you are planning to do so that is). Being where we are, I foresee a revival in most things  classic and it’s only a matter of time before what has been forgotten comes into light again. Let us just hope the trendsetters pick stuff worthy picking up. J

The increasing sales in vinyl speak it’s own story. The big thing after that is the Golden Era where terms such as Keeping It Real, will be a fashion all over again!? Personally I think we are to foresee a more rough and rugged musical landscape take shape somewhere within a year or two and going from digital to analogue pretty much underlines this. Let us all try to steer things forward into a right direction while having the right roots grounding us as we stand against the winds of change! Two steps forward – One step back ..

You know what … I think I’m going back to the future!

I hate to admit it, but as someone who is as digitally savvy as you get – I miss the old times. It’s not a case of nostalgia or a simple lament of an aging person. It is just a reminder of the speed of the information dissemination in today’s’ society. It has never been easier to instantly connect with all things one would ever think of. You can get your hands on pretty much anything within seconds, minutes and sometimes just hours. Compare it to the good old days where you had to wait days, weeks and months for anything worthy to actually get your hands on. Today, I’m kind of feeling lost in the digital jungle. There is simply no time to ponder and reflect on your own personal preference as choices are fed to you constantly and an immediate approach to download and not to download is expected. Gone are the days of persuasive filtering through material as you don’t even have the time or energy to go filter through the immense amounts of content which is being thrown at you. Once you had to rely on the good judgment of people in the position of informational powers – today each and everyone of us is a source of opinionated content, whether it’s on our Facebook profile, our twitter account or our blog. These days everyone seems to have one. The question is – who to follow? I would ask you to think back when HipHop first started. It was the use of technology that paved the way for the Dj’s to start cutting records up. Back then, something as certain as a mixer – was just as much a crazy idea as wireless power is today. However, that didn’t stop the creativity and the drive of the determined and DJ Red Alert soon had the first prototype of the Vestax dynasty. Throughout the years you can see how samplers, keyboards, vocoders and what not was introduced by HipHop way before it hit any mainstream genre. I would even go as far as saying that technology probably is the fifth pillar of the HipHop culture as you witness the constant evolution of the game which reflects only the progressions made by the tools we use to express ourselves. How is Rap and Street oriented music different than any other genre. If you think about it, the independent record movement started by the same time the Internet got it’s breakthrough. No other style of music had such a changeover in the years after 1997. The era of Fun Crusher Plus made sure you only needed two turntables, a microphone and a computer to record it all. Soon you could be flooding the street with home made discs, tapes and what not. Take a further look to see how the HipHop genre has ruled the Billboard charts of lately. My opinion is that the industry players here were the ones that embraced the Guerrilla Marketing strategies to put their music out by any means necessary. The Internet has always been the cheapest way of spreading your word – and the HipHop movement, itself grounded in hard times and poverty, is all about finding the most effective & cost efficient means of disseminating it’s message! Needless to say, HipHop music, even in it’s most diluted form, now holds the records for most downloaded ringtones. No surprises here … So let me say this …. Basementality as a movement and as a state of mind is all about empowering yourself with means of using technology as a means of expression. I rely on consistency! Scout for people you know are trustworthy in terms of content generation. Your old sources are probably feeding some good tips towards you without you realizing it. I look forward to be a source of inspiration in this regard. I WILL hunt the right people down and I will bring you the content – no matter the cost! That is why you want to stay put with this blog. Classic – but never behind is the motto!
